Tesla Optimus Gen 2 is Tesla's second-generation humanoid robot, designed to perform repetitive industrial tasks autonomously inside Tesla Gigafactories. The Gen 2 design features improved hand dexterity and faster walking speed compared to its predecessor.

This robot uses a hybrid approach where some data is processed locally on the device and some is sent to cloud servers. The level of EU data protection depends on what data stays local versus what is transmitted. Sensitive data like camera feeds may be processed on-device while usage analytics go to the cloud. How to keep it private

Real-time inference runs on the custom Tesla FSD chip locally. However, Optimus relies on fleet-wide learning where training data from all units is aggregated on Tesla Cortex supercomputers. Currently only deployed inside Tesla Gigafactories under Tesla control, so privacy is managed by Tesla internally.

Privacy tip

Optimus is not available for consumer or third-party purchase. It operates exclusively in Tesla facilities under Tesla supervision. There are no user-facing privacy controls because there are no external users. When consumer sales begin (targeted end of 2027), privacy controls remain unknown.
