Mixed - some data on-device, some in cloud
This robot uses a hybrid approach where some data is processed locally on the device and some is sent to cloud servers. The level of EU data protection depends on what data stays local versus what is transmitted. Sensitive data like camera feeds may be processed on-device while usage analytics go to the cloud. Review the manufacturer's privacy policy for specifics on what data goes where.
How to keep it private
On-device edge computing handles real-time locomotion and manipulation with sub-100ms latency. Orbit fleet management can run fully on-premise. Internet not required for core autonomous operation.
Orbit fleet management platform can be deployed on-premise via Site Hub, as a virtual machine (VMware, Hyper-V), or in private cloud (Azure, GCP). On-premise deployments keep all data within the enterprise network.
Available privacy controls
Deploy fleet management entirely within your own network. Boston Dynamics does not access Orbit Cloud Data unless explicitly permitted.
Built-in face detection automatically obscures faces in captured images with black boxes for privacy compliance
Performance Metrics can be disabled on the robot or in Orbit settings. Service Logs sharing is opt-in.
Customizable user permissions for data, missions, and settings with SSO integration
Enterprise security audit certification for the Orbit platform
Deploy Orbit on-premise via the Site Hub to keep all operational data within your network. Disable Performance Metrics in Orbit settings and only share Service Logs when needed. Enable face blurring for compliance in areas with personnel.
What this means for EU residents
Edge computing on-device with sub-100ms latency. Orbit fleet management platform serves as centralized data hub connecting to MES and WMS systems. Enterprise-only with private deployments.
